The 2012-13 Falcons race season has officially come to a close.

This past weekend our U12's & U14's participated in the last Far West race of the season.  With top-10 finishes by Cyd Curle, Jonny Lee, Chase, Dawson (only .8 seconds off the leader!), and Savannah Martin, both athletes and coaches had a blast in the warm California sun!

Last weekend the comp team took a trip over to Squaw Valley to watch the US Nationals Women's SL!  It was a beautiful day filled with some ripping skiing... and the team even got to hang with Mikaela Shiffrin!!

Happy March! As spring’s around the corner, we’re wrapping up regular season racing and preparing to move into Championship Season. Despite a few early season obstacles—including the knees of two coaches!—we made a few adjustments and have had a productive and successful season.

Early season snowfall allowed our FIS team down through our LTF team to start core skills training (vital to ski racing development) before the December Holidays. Many attended Holiday Camp to further their core skills training and even got in a little powder skiing! The addition of uninterrupted access to Double Down has allowed coaches to revisit that core skills training at any time during the season.

Finally, some highlights:

TRB & LTF: Our athletes have been honing their skiing skills and have demonstrated them on courses set on the Double Down run since the first of the year……the athletes are ready for a fun-filled Final weekend March 16-17 & FALCONPALOOZA on March 30th!

Peregrine Highlights: The Peregrines will be wrapping up a great season at Sugar Bowl with their Championships on March 23^rd - 24^th.  All of the athletes have worked hard this season and have all progressed, as evidenced by their steady improvements in finishes throughout the season.  With multiple top-10 finishes, the following athletes are in the running for the Tahoe League Overall Season Awards:

High School: Two of our Falcon athletes schooled the rest of the field in High School State Finals:

                Megan Rescigno (GHS)  -Girls’ Overall Nevada State Champion!               

                Matt Cooper (RHS)          - Boys’ Overall Nevada State Champion!             

Comp Team Highlights:

In December, Matt Cooper, Alicia Gant, Anna Marshall, and Ryan Schoenfeld traveled to Snow King, WY to compete in the Western Region Devo FIS race. Have your younger athletes ask any of these older athletes about their trip and experiences—their eyes will light up (the older ones as well as the younger ones)!

Cyd Curle & Dawson Martin both finished in the 30’s in a challenging SG at Alpine Meadows March 1^st – 3^rd. This out of almost 100 racers, in each field, across the Far West from Mt. Shasta in the North to Snow Summit down South! They’re looking forward to getting back to the basics for a few weeks before Championships at Sugarbowl, April 4-7^th.

Savannah & Chase Martin scored 8th & 9th respectively in the Mammoth North-South SG Series on March 16th!

Matt Cooper, Alicia Gant, Anna Marshall, Ryan Schoenfeld, & John Tillis are just returning from Mission Ridge, WA and competing in the Western Region Junior Championships.   Megan Rescigno will be leaving next week for Junior Championships in Alyeska, AK.
